Andy Griffith, Susan Barringer Wells, Outer Banks, Mt Airy, Whoa mule you kickin mule
The connections we have to one another are truly amazing. I have come to believe there is no such thing as a coincidence. There is a bit of controversy about what Andy Griffith sings on the Andy Griffith Show when he sings Whoa mule you. I remember kickin and that is the version I know and have sung. A nice lady in Mt Airy thought she remembered crazy, but she is coming around to my recollection of kickin. Obviously, there are often many versions of old songs so it is possible to have heard many.
So, Andy, if you are out there reading this, which word did you sing? So, why did I mention Andy Griffith, Susan Barringer Wells and the Outer Banks. Susan has lived at the Outer Banks for many years and would occasionally see Andy Griffith in Manteo. Andy has a ranch in Manteo. He also acted in the play, The Lost Colony, many years ago. Susan has written a new book and has been a premier artist at the Outer Banks of NC for many years.

For our children, for us all…..The Game must End! A Great Read! (Rated 5 out of 5)
This book demands attention! It is tough to put it down, once started , get ready to read on. Facinating story, this page turner delivers not only a complex who dun it but also illustrates the power of the inflamatory press of the early 1900’s. There is much to learn here also, it is almost a cautionary tale….how and perhaps why we find ourselves in painful issues of race. The author writes with passion to tell her story…devoted to illuminating the humanity of the accused as well that of her murdered relatives. Carefully researched, bravely honest, and compassionate to even those our dark side may be quick to condemn. Lending every opportunity for redemption. As I have observed the tenacity with which the self righteous element of some of the decendants of the murdered family cling on to a satisfying vindictive bloodlust over 100 years later to justify the lynching of 2 men and a 15 yr. old boy, first tortured, mutilated and then trophying their body parts, there are those of us that are finding an opportunity for enlightenment, forgiveness and healing as we reckon with what those that preceded us chose to do. My great grandfather very likely had the power to sway the mob, he stood between the accused and those that rioted and committed yet another atrocity of public murder. He stepped aside. He made a choice, a shameful choice and Salisbury became Hell on Earth that night. The author gives us another chance to move forward in time…all of us. For all families across our country…Yes, we can. Marilyn Harrison Great granddaughter of John Redwine Barringer
