March 28 – EIGHTwentythree, The Moonshiners @ CPCC Artsfest, Halton Theatre, CPCC, 1206 Elizabeth Avenue Charlotte NC 7 PM EIGHTwentythree is the eclectic Bluegrass band detailed so eloquently in the popular book Bluegrass Is My Second Language: A Year in The Life Of An Accidental Bluegrass Musician by John Santa, who plays mandolin, guitar, harmonica and sings for the group. EIGHTwentythree (named for the first time they ever played together–8/23/01) will be performing original compositions from their new CD, The Blessing Of The Strings, due out in May. The group consists of songwriter Greg Eldred on lead vocals and guitar, Keith Carroll on vocals and acoustic (upright) bass, and composer Jeff Wiseman on vocals and banjo. Author John Santa also writes songs for the quartet. Their music draws on many sources from the traditional sounds of Bill Monroe to the pop stylings of the Beatles. The have a dynamic stage show and clearly enjoy making great music together. Their concert on March 28th at the Dale F. Halton Theater on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College begins at 7 PM when local group The Moonshiners take the stage with EIGHTwentythree scheduled to perform at 8:45 PM. Bluegrass Is My Second Language: A Year in The Life Of An Accidental Bluegrass Musician (www.bluegrassbook.com) will be available at the venue and there will be a meet the group and the author/book signing following the concert.  Tickets for the CPCC Artsfest event are $10, $5 for students.
